Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad is a Malaysian doctor and politician who served as the fourth and seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia[1][2][3][4]. He was born on July 10, 1925, in Kampung Seberang Perak, Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia[1][4]. His father, Mohamad bin Iskandar, was a Malay with Indian ancestry from Kerala, while his mother, Wan Tempawan, was from Kedah and of Malay descent[1]. Mahathir studied medicine at the University of Malaya in Singapore during the British colonial era[2]. He served as Prime Minister for a total of 24 years, making him the longest-serving Prime Minister in Malaysia’s history[1][2][4]. He was first appointed as Prime Minister on July 16, 1981, and served until October 30, 2003[2][5]. He was appointed as Prime Minister again on May 10, 2018, and served until February 24, 2020[2][6]. Mahathir is also known as “Tun M” and is considered the father of modernization in Malaysia[2]. He has five children, including Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also a politician[6].
